Format: 1500 word reflective practice
This assessment requires you to engage with specific areas in international HRM (IHRM) and compose a reflective piece. You are required to apply theoretical concepts and principles to show your understanding of how a particular IHRM area applies to real-life situations, and how it informs your relevant experience combined with your reflective thinking. This assessment requires you to think critically and develop an enhanced reflective attitude towards the discipline of IHRM.
Your task is to reflect on any two of the following four IHRM themes:
Senior Management’s attitudes & Transferability of HRM Practices
National Culture & IHRM practices
The Role of an Expatriate in transfer of competence and knowledge
International Staffing Approaches: Polycentric Approach vs Ethnocentric Approach
Submit individual entries for each of your chosen themes in the form of a reflective practice journal. Note that each individual entry should be written as a reflective piece in your own words and should be consistent with the themes chosen and incorporating the following discussion points.
In each of your journal entries, you should clearly discuss the following points:
Define the concept with the support of a reference and explain how this concept would relate to your experience in your organisation or in your industry.
Provide a practical example that demonstrates how this concept is applied in your organisation or industry. Alternatively, you can consider explaining how you would implement this concept if you were a manager working for a multinational enterprise.
Discuss what challenges you would face as a manager dealing with this concept and how you would handle them.
Explain what have you learned about this concept from your experience.
The required word length for this assessment is 1500 words (plus or minus 10%). Each entry should contain approximately 750 words. Consider writing approximately 180 to 190 words to cover each of the four discussion points mentioned above. Each journal should have two individual entries that cover the four discussion points mentioned above.
You are required to maintain the journal as an electronic document in a Microsoft Word file. There is no strict structure requirement.
In terms of presentation and style you are required to use:
AIB preferred Microsoft Word settings
author-date style referencing (which includes in-text citations plus a reference list).
These requirements are detailed in the AIB Style Guide.
You are required to include a minimum of five references in your assignment with at least two references used to describe/reflect upon each theme. All references must be from credible sources such as recent academic journal articles, books, industry-related journals, magazines and company documents.
Your grade will be adversely affected if your report contains no/poor citations and/or reference list and if the word length is beyond the allowed tolerance level (see Assessment Policy available on AIB website).
